10-23-2007: HDC HALLWAY CONSTRUCTION NEARS COMPLETION
It has been a long haul, but the final touches are being completed in our entry hallway at the HDC. We have completely removed the 70's appearance and have upgraded the bathrooms and south entry doors. You will notice we have changed the rubber flooring near the entrance to the rink and training center too. The contractors have a few more items to complete on the west wall which will then allow us to uncover our windows that look into the rink. We will be adding a countertop and tables near the windows to give our parents and spectators an additional area to relax and watch the kids work on the ice!
In addition to the hallway work, the mezzanine bathroom should be completed within a few weeks. We appreciate everyone's patience during our construction phase. The building has come a long way after being transformed from a grocery store into a State-Of-Art Hockey Training Center.
Keep your eyes open for some additional changes over the coming months. We will be adding skate sharpening, offering basic essential hockey supplies, and improving the mezzanine area.

HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT CENTER OPENS STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY IN LAKEVILLE
Hockey training is about to reach a whole new level as the Hockey Development Center in Lakeville gets ready to open its doors on May 5, 2007 with a public open house from noon to 5:00 P.M.. The new, state-of-the-art facility will offer training camps, clinics, and three-on-three leagues for players of all ages and abilities.
The innovative technology and training programs used at the Hockey Development Center were created by former NHL player Dean Talafous, founder of Total Hockey Training Systemsâ„¢. Over the last five years, Talafous has continued to develop the most advanced, hockey-specific skill development protocols and products the sport has seen.
Among them: a patented product called the Speed Ramp which helps players develop first-step quickness.
In addition to the Speed Ramp, the Hockey Development Center will offer several off-ice training stations such as Multi-Tasking, Slide Boards, Shooting Stations and Quick Hands. These challenging, progressive drills force the players to simultaneously move their feet while handling a puck, building their direct and peripheral vision. All of the systems use advanced computer, sensor and radar technology to measure player performance and offer immediate feedback to improve player performance.
Players can also make use of another high-tech feature: the ability to track and record their progress electronically.
When players enter the facility, they are given a swipe card that records their performance data and automatically uploads the information to a player development Web site explains site director Liam McDonald of the Hockey Development Center. The players can then access this Web site from anywhere, allowing them to track their improvement and compare their performance with other players within the same age group.
In addition to the off-ice training, the Hockey Development Center will include a 130' x 64' hockey arena, designed smaller-than-standard to intentionally speed up the game and improve response times for the players. We have the best of both worlds under one roof, says Richard Zemlak, co-site director and former NHL player. Players can take what they've learned in training and immediately apply it on the ice.
The Hockey Development Center is owned by local businessmen who share one thing in common: the love of hockey. All eleven grew up playing the sport and most have children playing in the Lakeville hockey program.
For owner Brian McKinney, who helped develop much of the technology that players experience with the Total Hockey Training System, bringing the Hockey Development Center to Lakeville is a dream come true. He says the combination of technology, coaches' training style and positive reinforcement at the facility will lead to the building of 'heart, drive and confidence" in each and every player.

About Total Hockey Training Systems
Total Hockey Training Systems was created by former NHL player and NCAA coach, Dean Talafous. Mr. Talafous has dedicated more than 40 years to hockey as both an NHL player (including the Minnesota North Stars) and as a Division 1 and Division 3 coach. After leaving coaching, he reflected back on his career and carefully examined the skill sets crucial to the game of hockey: quick start, quick feet, hockey vision, multi-tasking and hand-eye coordination. He recognized that few training programs focused specifically on these skills in an environment that was year-round, challenging and enjoyable. Committed to the future of hockey and excited by helping players of all abilities, he started Total Hockey in 2002.
